“I remember that day in June 2003 as if it were yesterday. Together with Tito Dal Lago, like myself an Inter fan and working in Uganda for the non-governmental organisation Doctors with Africa CUAMM, we went to the Italian Embassy in Kampala to officially bring Inter Club Kayunga – Uganda into being. It was a way for us to cultivate our passion for Inter in Africa, a bond which only strengthened when, in 2008, Inter Campus Uganda was established thanks to the commitment of many Italians and Ugandans and with the help of Massimo Seregni.
Since those days, the journey has been exciting and rich in humanity. The Campus was set up at St. Joseph’s Primary School in Nagalama, 50 km north of the capital Kampala, which today involves more than a thousand students, boys and girls, and has seen the dedication of teachers and the headmaster in using sport as a means of human promotion and support for school education.
Among the many beautiful things we remember, we always have in our minds the smiles of the children and youngsters, and the wonder for some of them to be in Milan at the San Siro stadium to celebrate the Inter Campus World Cup in 2009.
Inter Campus subsequently involved other schools in central and northern Uganda, bringing happiness, joy, and fun to children and youngsters who daily experience the precariousness of existence in a country that faces many health difficulties and is in great need of educational interventions for young people (those under 14 years old make up 48% of the population).
As Doctors with Africa (CUAMM), we continue our commitment to Africa and Africans, and we thank Inter Campus for sharing our ideals.”
