MANAGUA – Following an itinerant journey throughout Central America, Giuditta Gallo, the point of contact for Inter Campus Nicaragua, decided to stop in Managua, the capital of Nicaragua, partly for its history and places, but certainly for its extraordinarily welcoming people. Giuditta has always had a calling to serve those most in need, and after various experiences in the cooperation sector, it was in Managua that she found the definitive fulfillment of this inclination, beginning to work for the Centro Audicion e Integracion Escolar “Escuchando el Futuro” (C.A.I.E.), a medical center established to help children with hearing problems, thereby promoting their integration into society.
In 2014, C.A.I.E. met Inter Campus, and for Giuditta, this encounter represented “the joy of discovering free, pure, and cheerful play. The happiness of playing without needing to win or compete, but rather fulfilling the most important right of all children… the right to play.”
Today, the project supports approximately one hundred children from some of the city’s underprivileged neighborhoods and, as evidence of the project’s established roots in the territory, it consistently enjoys the fundamental support of Nicaraguan institutions and the Nicaraguan Consulate in Italy in Milan, through Lorenzo Alderisio, who has always been closely involved with the Nerazzurri social project. Furthermore, the Minister of Sport and the Minister of Tourism often attend the children’s training sessions at the Centro Deporte, kindly provided by local institutions. And that’s not all. The children’s parents have also become an important voice in the project: just last year, they established the Parent Committee for Inter Campus children, a body that serves to gather proposals and advice to best develop our activities.
During the children’s training sessions, in the stands of the sports center, all these figures meet, chat, encourage the children, and exchange ideas. And Giuditta, with her passion and her ability to listen, acts as the spokesperson for “a community that is growing and that can only make us hope for the best for this wonderful country.”
