Countless motorcycles cross the red-dirt streets of this small Colombian town: here, helmets are just a memory for us Europeans, cars are very few, and you only see trucks loaded with goods and old tuk-tuks for short trips. In Puerto Carreño, time truly seems to have stood still: compared to other Colombian cities, there is more safety, and life flows slowly like the three rivers that surround it, but the needs and vulnerabilities among children are numerous here as well. For about a year, in addition to the 40 children from the town center, we have also involved 40 children of indigenous ethnicity, half of whom are girls. Living conditions are truly difficult: the houses the children live in are made of corrugated metal, walking is the only means of transport, and water comes from a small well near the home. Despite this, thanks to the great passion and expertise of coaches Cesar, Fabian, Alexis, and Mark, three training sessions are guaranteed during the week, held at the municipal field and the precious concrete court of the “Institución Educativa Bilingüe Calarcá (IEBC).” The testimonials from parents during the usual post-training meetings give even more value to the project: “Without you, my daughter wouldn’t be able to play, because I can’t afford to enroll her in a soccer school.”
Thank you, Vichada, see you in September! ¡Taparajae! which in the Sikuani language means “we will see each other again” 27.03.2026
