Over the past two months, Inter Campus, partner of the “Show Racism the Red Card – Diversity Wins” project, has involved over 200 students in three different schools in the Milan area. Racism and discrimination were the topics addressed, to understand how to eradicate them from football and society while celebrating the value of diversity. The Show Racism the Red Card educational program is developed through interactive workshop modules, in which children listen, play, engage in dialogue, and create their own original works on the subject.
“We are all special, helping people in need, being inclusive, we are all different”
These were the words of a young girl at the end of the workshop; the laboratories involve understanding what racism is, but also how differences can sometimes lead to prejudice and marginalization if we do not accept diversity as a value. One of the children who participated in the workshops said:
“These meetings let me understand we are all the same, and we all have the Right to Play. No matter if a child is different from us, because we are equal!”
The educators from Inter Campus delivered some of the first sessions remotely, but as soon as health restrictions allowed it, they returned to in-person learning. As the school year draws to a close, the project will resume in September; in the meantime, we continue to celebrate the beauty of diversity!
The project is co-funded by the European Union.
