Cateura and Zeballos: The Roots of Inter Campus Paraguay

Zeballos Cué and Cateura are located on opposite sides of Asuncion, respectively north and south of the city. Close to the Paraguay River, just a few hundred meters from the Argentine border, both are areas known for social and educational challenges. The small homes in the Zeballos aldea welcome children and dysfunctional families; some are abandoned, others are without fathers due to incarceration, or have parts of their families dispersed elsewhere.

In Cateura, on the other hand, all the city’s garbage is concentrated in an open-air dump that gains meters in height every month and, unfortunately, attracts many minors, sent by their families, to collect and sell waste in any way possible.

In these two degraded areas, Inter Campus has been supporting the right to play and education for nearly three hundred boys and girls for over fifteen years, combating deviations such as gender and domestic violence, alcohol and drug consumption, early pregnancies, and school dropout and abandonment. The training sessions follow sports and educational themes aimed at supporting children through their daily difficulties, enhancing their resources such as enthusiasm, motivation, and the desire to play and excel through sport. Whether it’s on the sand covering the waste in Cateura or in the field full of insects from the neighboring river, the important thing is to play and be able to grow in a slightly more protected environment, with the possibility of forming friendships and cultivating future dreams and hopes. From play to life in an instant, through and accompanied by Inter Campus.
