Monza – Born with an international orientation, as an expression of the Nerazzurri Club’s ethical values, Inter Campus is a project in continuous growth and evolution, adapting to the realities it encounters, its difficulties, and its needs. For some years, it has also been operating on Italian soil and in the Milan area, striving to respond, through the game of football, to situations of clinical fragility in children affected by hematological diseases.
An important journey we shared in two live broadcasts on our Instagram channel, involving Dr. Jankovic, former head of the Pediatric Hematology Department at San Gerardo Hospital in Monza and promoter of the Inter Campus project “Playing Helps You Heal,” inaugurated in 2013 and now passed into the hands of Dr. Marco Spinelli, to whom he has handed down the philosophy of smiles and well-being: essential elements to restore normality to young patients and their parents, who are shocked by the news of a serious illness and scared of the possible consequences. “The game of football, on the Interello mini-pitches, together with their little brothers and sisters and their parents watching, is a fundamental factor that tangibly contributes to the psychophysical balance of children who are recovering, in therapy breaks, and recovered, who run and have fun forgetting their sacrifices and living normality,” the doctor specifies.
Concurrently, starting in 2017, Inter Campus-Sport Therapy began, a scientific project for children in the pediatric hematology department that, as Dr. Francesca Lanfranconi – Sports Doctor at San Gerardo Hospital in Monza and our contact person – told us, involves children hospitalized in the department from the first day of diagnosis in sports activities and specific technical gestures of certain disciplines, including football. In this case too, Dr. Lanfranconi emphasizes, the quality of Inter Campus’s human and technical resources is fundamental, as through the presence of its coach Roberto Redaelli, specific sessions adaptable to the needs of the hospitalized children and adolescents are organized every week.
Despite the critical historical moment linked to the Covid-19 emergency, activities in the ward and gym continue, thanks to the safety measures already in place and thus the possibility of continuing to give children an opportunity for play and normality.
