Yuri is a mother of four; her house backs onto the pitch in San Isidro where, every day, dozens of kids play with Inter Campus. From the early afternoon to the late evening, various groups fill the center of that small quarter in San Isidro with their noise. Their laughter echoes around the local area, filtering through the windows and into the ears of the people who live there.

Yurani, Jospeh, Josemith and Angel—Yuri’s children—have been a part of Inter Campus ever since they were little; it was never going to be otherwise. They add their voices to the happy chorus that emanates from training sessions and, for some years now, they’ve had extra cause to smile, because their afternoons don’t just finish with a game: there’s now a new ritual, in which Yuri herself takes part.

Thanks to the Magallanes Foundation, to the partnership with the UEFA Foundation and to the tireless work of local associations, each child receives a full meal after training is completed. Ready-prepared and nutritious food, such as pulses, rice, vegetable proteins and (occasionally) meat, are given out to the children. In a difficult context such as Venezuela, where even potable water is a scarce resource, Yuri has opened her doors to Inter Campus, making herself available to the community.

“I couldn’t hold back,” she confesses to us, “and I immediately accepted this new role for the benefit of the children.” At first, she offered a few stools and a small table, distributing snacks to those who approached; today, she has effectively become the cook to whom everyone runs at the end of the match. She takes us into her kitchen—humble, yet well-equipped—to show us the large pots in which she prepares sancocho, the typical Venezuelan soup made of vegetables and chicken, which is meticulously distributed to endless single-file lines of children. For a few months now, she has been sporting a beautiful white apron and a true chef’s hat. “I look after the food and I enjoy preparing it; the smiles of the children, who often have nothing to eat at home, is the greatest reward.” We would like to chat more, but she must leave us: preparations for a new snack are in full swing. We let her go and wait curiously: who knows what’s cooking this time.

[207

post-17245","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news
[19820,19821,19822
19820,19821,19822],"video url nazione":"","Url nazione":
