Nerazzurri in Africa: An Opportunity Not to Be Missed

The journey to Cameroon begins on a day of heavy rains; as the car speeds along, the problems of Congo become apparent, and the day that is about to begin is an important one. Traveling within the African continent is difficult, even by plane, with few connections and high costs; few can afford it, and this does not foster relations between countries that, though distant, have much to share. I therefore consider myself privileged. My trip to Yaoundé will last more than 24 hours, including a stop in Nairobi and a technical layover in Zambia.

It was a privilege to participate in the training sessions held alongside male and female coaches from Uganda, Angola, and Cameroon. Meeting in Africa, among Africans, is a profoundly important event that will remain unforgettable, thanks to Inter Campus and the UEFA Foundation: the significance of being able to communicate our different experiences, our difficulties, and to perfectly understand each other despite the different languages spoken, is a fundamental step in our journey within the project, as is the opportunity to learn from individuals rich in experience and talent, such as the project’s male and female coaches. We live in countries with infinite human resources, unfortunately underutilized, and even in the world of African football, good coaches are few and all work for the most important teams; the chance to meet and share with highly qualified individuals is a unique learning opportunity, and distractions are not permitted. Certain opportunities, in Africa, come only once in a lifetime.

I leave Cameroon with my mind finally able to give life to an assertion I read years ago, written by the great philosopher Achille Mbembe: the future of humanity lies in our ability to live together.
