In recent months, Cuba has been experiencing an ambivalent situation, due on the one hand to the positive outcome of the containment of the COVID-19 pandemic, thanks to massive adherence to the national vaccination program, but on the other, to the continuous worsening of the population’s socioeconomic conditions. While the Caribbean island has reopened to tourism in recent weeks and schools have allowed for the return of students, at the same time the increase in the price of food, including staples, has further increased the difficulties facing Cuban society and families, amplifying the vulnerabilities of children and adolescents.
In this scenario, Inter Campus, active in the centers of Havana and Holguin, has the important task of supporting children not only from an educational and sporting perspective, but also in the construction and maintenance of values such as optimism, hope, trust, and tolerance, which find their roots in the teachings historically transmitted within family units and reshaped by the 1959 revolution. On the fields of Havana and Holguin, children experience moments of safety and protection, combined with the recreation and enjoyment of football activities, while families are aware that behind all of this lies a path of growth for their children.
The commitment of all local staff is, in this sense, constant and continuous, and it is also thanks to them that the educational and developmental journey of the children continues with extraordinary results.
