The International Day of Persons with Disabilities was proclaimed in 1981 with the aim of promoting the rights and well-being of people with disabilities. The convention, adopted in 2006 after decades of work by the United Nations, invites States to take the necessary measures to identify and eliminate all those obstacles that limit the respect of these essential rights. The Convention focuses on the need for conditions that allow people with disabilities to live independently and to participate fully in all aspects of life and development.
Among the areas included in the 2030 Agenda, sport represents a practical and effective tool for real social inclusion and the development of skills.
On December 3, 2019, we were at the United Nations in New York to talk about the various activities that Inter Campus promotes and supports in favor of children with disabilities, particularly intellectual ones, through the game of football. One year later, the Nerazzurri social project was once again invited to participate in the UN event “Reimagining cooperation on sport for persons with disabilities, leaving no one behind” to share its experience on these delicate issues.
Today, Inter Campus continues to pursue its objective of social inclusion through initiatives such as Play in the Middle, sharing remote exercises with children in Russian orphanages and with the association l’Abilità Onlus, and on-field activities with children from Polish special needs schools.
A path that we hope to broaden in order to promote, through play, the acquisition of the skills necessary to be able to have fun, regardless of the initial difficulties.
